Mustache Canvas DIY

It's as simple as it looks, and tres cute!

I woke up yesterday, sat on the stairs and started making this. I don't even know what to call it; a marble-wrapped-in-craft-wire pendant with a decorative blue bead?

Whatever it's called, it gets to hang out with my other silver-y/black pendants:

American Flag Jacket DIY: Part 1

What you'll need:

• A Jean Jacket
• Fabric Paint. I used Tulip brand in "Red Velveteen" and "Glacier White."
• A ruler to measure your stripes
• A pen to mark your measurements (optional if you have a really good eye for that stuff, which I don't)
• Paper-back Tape
• A sponge brush ($0.39 at AC Moore)
• A paintbrush for touch-ups (square-shaped is preferred)
• Star Stencils (I made my own)

Step 1: Measure how thick you want your stripes. Every jacket is different, so the measurements will vary accordingly.

Step 2: Begin taping along your marked measurements. I knew I wanted to start painting my red stripes first, so I marked off the white stripes with the white paper-backed tape.

Step 3: This is the easy part. Start painting! Two coats of paint should do.

Step 4: Let the paint dry for at least 45 minutes, then slowly peel tape away.

Step 5: Now that your red stripes have dried, cover them well (you don't want one color to bleed into the other) with tape.

Step 6: Paint your white stripes. Again, two coats of paint will do.

Step 7: Wait again for the paint to dry, then peel away. You may take this time for touch-ups.

Step 8: Grab your star stencil(s) and paint on white stars! Let that dry, and your end product should look something like this:

Of course, you can do it any way you please. This is just my version inspired by the jackets on the Nasty Gal website.

If you didn't already notice, this post is titled "Part 1," because I plan on adding some pyramid studs to the collar and other parts of the jacket, but that won't be for awhile. So stay tuned!
